This study aimed to 1) document self-reported grit levels in accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students; 2) examine correlations between grit and personal student characteristics; and 3) compare DPT student grit scores with those of students in other healthcare disciplines.
A survey within this cross-sectional research study targeted 1524 enrolled students from accredited DPT programs located in the United States. In the surveys, the 12-item Grit-O questionnaire was combined with a supplementary questionnaire that elicited information about personal student attributes. A non-parametric inferential statistical analysis was undertaken to assess differences in Grit-O scores based on the respondent's gender identity, age group, year in school, race/ethnicity, and employment status. A statistical comparison of DPT grit scores against previously documented grit scores of students in other health professions was undertaken using one-sample t-tests.
A mean grit score of 395 (SD 0.45) and a median grit score of 400 (IQR 375-425) were reported by DPT students from 68 programs in response to the surveys. The Grit-O subscores for interest consistency and effort perseverance yielded median scores of 367 (IQR 317-400) and 450 (IQR 417-467), respectively. A statistically significant elevation in perseverance of effort subscores was observed among African American respondents, whereas older students demonstrated significantly greater consistency of interest subscores. DPT students displayed higher grit scores than both nursing and pharmacy students, demonstrating a similar level of grit as medical students.
Survey responses from DPT students suggest a perception of high grit levels, with a notable emphasis on their perseverance.

A tertiary hospital in Sydney, Australia, implemented a NADT on one of its acute geriatric wards and compared its performance with a control ward. Although the Brief Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced (Brief COPE) instrument is frequently employed in both clinical and nonclinical settings, the dependability of its constituent subscales remains uncertain. Within a cohort of Australian rehabilitation health professionals, this study explored and sought to improve the construct validity and reliability of the Brief COPE.
343 rehabilitation health professionals participated in an anonymous online survey, completing the Brief COPE and a demographic questionnaire. To establish the number of factors in the Brief COPE, a principal components analysis procedure was implemented. The instrument's theoretical underpinnings were scrutinized in light of the observed factors. Reliability analysis was used to gauge the internal consistency of the subscales, with items assigned to separate factors undergoing scrutiny.
A principal components analysis of a modified Brief COPE scale resulted in two identified dimensions: task-focused coping and distraction-focused coping. This modified instrument exhibited strong construct validity and a high degree of reliability, as indicated by Cronbach's alpha scores ranging between 0.72 and 0.82. Over 50% of the item variability was attributable to the separate and distinct two dimensions.
The Brief COPE scale, in its revised form, shows strong alignment with existing theories of coping, and satisfactory reliability and construct validity in a sample of health professionals, thus rendering it fitting for future investigations of similar professional groups.

The influence of an Interprofessional Transgender Health Education Day (ITHED) on student insight and stance concerning the transgender population was the focus of this examination.
A pre-test and post-test survey was instrumental in this mixed-methods study, which included students from four health professional education programs (medicine, family therapy, speech-language pathology, nutrition, and dietetics) (n=84 pre-test, n=66 post-test). Independent samples t-tests were employed to ascertain variations in the total and subscale scores of the Transgender Knowledge, Attitudes, and Beliefs (T-KAB) questionnaire, prior to and following involvement in the ITHED program; qualitative responses were analyzed thematically and inductively.
Independent samples t-tests revealed no substantial variations between pre- and post-ITHED total T-KAB scores, the three sub-scales, or in the results for those reporting prior training, clinical experience, and regular interaction with transgender individuals. Among the qualitative themes was a marked interest in learning about transgender health, a strong need for healthcare providers to offer superior care to transgender patients, and the profound impact of direct learning from the transgender community.
Although participation in the ITHED did not yield substantial changes to T-KAB scores, the participants' initial T-KAB scores were high, and they conveyed significant enthusiasm for learning about transgender health issues. Elevating the voices of transgender students in the educational arena can promote an impactful learning environment for everyone, and uphold high ethical standards.

The mounting demands for health professional accreditation and the increasing prioritization of interprofessional education (IPE) have fuelled a heightened interest among health professions educators and administrators in the creation and implementation of effective and enduring IPE programs.
At the San Antonio campus of the University of Texas Health Science Center, the Linking Interprofessional Networks for Collaboration (LINC) program, a school-wide initiative, was designed to improve interprofessional education (IPE) expertise, provide more IPE opportunities, and incorporate IPE elements into the curriculum. Stakeholders designed, executed, and assessed the LINC Common IPE Experience, a university-wide IPE activity, in 2020. This consisted of three online collaborative learning modules that students completed synchronously, utilizing a videoconferencing platform without direct faculty involvement. Employing innovative media, 977 students from 26 diverse educational programs had a meaningful experience driven by mini-lectures, interprofessional discussions, and authentic case studies.
Student participation, team-oriented knowledge, proficiency in interprofessional interactions, and improvements in professional skills were substantial according to the results of the evaluations, both qualitative and quantitative. A substantial and impactful LINC Common IPE Experience serves as a sustainable model for university-wide IPE, offering a valuable example of foundational practice.
The quantitative and qualitative evaluations indicated a rise in student involvement, a deepening knowledge of teamwork, a positive trajectory toward interprofessional competency, and substantial benefits for professional advancement. A substantial, high-impact, sustainable IPE model, the LINC Common IPE Experience, exemplifies a robust foundational IPE activity, suitable for university-wide application.
